Introduction

In 2014, NFDB established the North East Regional Centre (NERC) at Guwahati under the administrative control of NFDB whose headquarter is in Hyderabad. The regional centre was established in the campus of the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj- North Eastern Regional Centre (NIRD-PR-NERC), Jawaharnagar, Khanapara, Guwahati. The Centre has been playing a pivotal role in the development of fisheries and aquaculture in the region through awareness programs, training, workshops, technical guidance, etc. under different NFDB activities.

Objectives:

• To Coordinate with the 8 North-eastern States for development of Fisheries and Aquaculture in the region.
• To explore the potential fisheries resources and development for fish culture activities for enhancing fish production.
• To promote small fish farmers and entrepreneurship for income earning and livelihood support.
• To act as an extension and outreach arm to NFDB for creating awareness and providing training and technical hand-holding to the fish farmers of the North-eastern States.

Activities:

• To analyse the need of the region and implement need-based projects prevalent in the North Eastern States
• To Organize Awareness Program/Workshop/Seminar and Farmer Oriented Skill Development Training .
• To Provide technical advisory services and hand holding to fish farmers of the region.
• To prepare Manual/ Booklet/ Brochure, if any, about fisheries and aquaculture development and NFDB initiated/ implemented schemes/activities for the fish farming community of North East Region
• To assist the States in preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) on fisheries and aquaculture development.
• To follow-up and coordinate with the 8 North Eastern States for implementation of fisheries activities and regular monitoring of the outcomes
