Internship is an integral platform to gain experience in actual workplace. It offers an opportunity to the interns towards orientation and hands-on experience/exposure in the concerned field. Learn through experience will be on priority at Internship programs. Theoretical knowledge gained can be experienced at practical/field level, thereby creating a holistic knowledge of the sector.

Why Internship at NFDB?

Fisheries is a sunrise sector in India providing sustainable livelihoods to millions of people thus contributing to food security and economic growth of the country. Government of India by realizing the potential of the sector has launched Prime Minister Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for promotion of fisheries & aquaculture sector. For effective implementation of PMMSY activities in the country, a strong, motivated and professional cadre of human resources is required to be positioned at various levels to provide technical and managerial support to fishers / fish farmers and other stakeholders in the sector. This is possible only when young generation get orientation/ exposure to fisheries activities during college education. To get such exposure the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) initiated the Internship programme. Few of the benefits of Internship at NFDB are as below: -

Areas of Work

The Internship Programme (IP) inter-alia seeks to engage students those who have completed Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Fisheries Science within India. These 'Interns" shall be given exposure to various works/projects being carried out by various divisions of NFDB and its regional offices and in turn it is expected to supplement the process of analysis within Board through empirical data collection and collation of in-house and external information. For the "Interns" the exposure to the functioning of Government Organization would be an add-on in furthering their future interests. Following are the few areas of Internship at NFDB: -

  1. Pradhana Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) schemes
  2. Human Resource Development Division
  3. Aquatic Animal Health & Quality Testing Lab
  4. Project Monitoring & Evaluation Division
  5. NFDB In-house Demo units
  6. NFDB – ERC, Bhubaneshwar – Quality Seed
  7. Various activities at Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying Govt of India.

NFDB Internship Localities

  1. National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad
  2. NFDB – Eastern Regional Centre, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha
  3. NFDB – North Eastern Regional Centre, Guwahati, Assam
  4. DoF- Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying Govt of India, Delhi.

Modalities for the year 2024-25
  • Duration of the Internship Programs: - Three, Six and Twelve months
  • Three, Six and Twelve Months Interns will be allocated with different working divisions at NFDB/ NFDB-ERC / NERC /DoF-Delhi with an ample of time to understand each and every processes at organization level thereby creating exposure to work and improving their working ability to different situations.
  • Basic Eligibility Criteria: - Should be a Citizen of India, Completed Graduation / Post Graduation BSc (Fisheries/Aquaculture/Industrial Fish & Fisheries), MSc (Aquaculture/ Fisheries Science as specialization), Bachelors of Fishery Science (B.F.Sc). or B Tech (Aquaculture Engineering) Master of Fisheries Science (M.F.Sc).
  • Selection Procedure: - The selection procedure is purely on Merit Basis
  • Stipend: - Rs.9000/- per month for Three months, Rs 12,000/- per month for Six months and Rs 15,000/- per month for Twelve months’ duration program.
